| Provider | Best for | Evidence checked | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Narwhal API | Country economics, release calendars and filings shown to customers under one key, with REST and MCP on one quota | Economics covers 37 countries and filings cover the US, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, EU/EEA and the UK. Free is 5,000 requests a month with commercial app use. Basic is $59 for 100,000 and Pro is $149 for 1,000,000. A successful REST or MCP call counts once, and errors do not count. | Stocks cover 42 exchanges and no Tokyo. No options or consensus forecasts. Free shows the previous day's close for spot prices and FX. |
| Financial Modeling Prep | A free tier and the cheapest US data for one person doing personal research, with exchange hours included | Starter is $29 a month ($19 billed yearly), Premium $69 and Ultimate $139. Basic is free with 250 calls a day. Economic indicators and exchange hours are on every plan. | Self-serve plans bar business use, and showing data in an app needs Enterprise with no published price. Compare plan prices
FMP costs $29, $69 and $139 a month, or $19, $49 and $99 billed yearly. EODHD costs $19.99, $29.99, $59.99 and $99.99, or $199 to $999.90 a year. Narwhal costs $59 and $149 a month. EODHD has the lowest paid entry price, then FMP Starter. At 100,000 calls a day, EODHD works out near $0.02 per 1,000 calls ($59.99 / 3,000); Narwhal Basic is $0.59 ($59 / 100,000 x 1,000).
Check the free tier
FMP gives 250 calls a day on a fixed symbol list, with 5 years of end-of-day data and no economic calendar. EODHD gives 20 calls a day plus 500 welcome-bonus calls and 1 year of history. Narwhal gives 5,000 requests a month with commercial use. A person testing an idea fits FMP or Narwhal Free; EODHD's 20 calls a day is a sandbox.
Read the rate limits
FMP limits calls per minute: 300, 750 and 3,000 with an asterisk it does not explain, plus bandwidth caps. EODHD gives 100,000 calls a day, but calls cost 1 to 100 each and failed lookups count. Narwhal counts successful requests per month.
Check the licence before you build
FMP personal plans cover one individual, and an app used by several people needs a separate agreement. EODHD personal plans bar display, and Internal use at $399 stays inside the company. Narwhal Free includes commercial app use.
Compare economic and calendar data
FMP has 24 US indicators on every plan and a calendar from Starter. EODHD has 39 annual World Bank series and events from 2020 with estimates, both from $59.99. Narwhal has monthly series for 37 countries and a calendar without estimates.
Compare holidays and market hours
FMP covers hours and holidays by exchange on every plan, free included. EODHD verifies holidays for 73 exchanges, from the EOD + Intraday plan. Narwhal lists public holidays for 37 countries, not exchange sessions.
Compare MCP servers
FMP hosts one with the key in the URL and 27 tools per its changelog. EODHD's has 72 read-only tools, OAuth 2.1 on version 2, and comes with every plan. Narwhal has 80 tools and a header key, sharing the REST quota.
Note where their pages disagree
FMP does not explain the asterisk on Ultimate's 3,000 calls a minute. EODHD lists Free at 20 requests a minute in one place and 1,000 in another, and its demo key returned HTTP 403 on economic events and macro calls.
