Monthly prices with a long history

70 monthly series

Explore eight categories, from metals and energy to grains and fertilizers. Each observation spans a calendar month.

History back to 1960

Compare historical commodity prices over decades. Some series start later or have ended. Check each series for its coverage dates.

Units as published

All prices use USD. Keep unit and unit_quantity together, including USD per 100 sheets for plywood.

A new month is added after each monthly publication. Individual series can lag or have ended. Barley and sorghum end in August 2020; Mexican shrimp ends in October 2023. Check coverage_end before treating a value as current. Most series use WLD for a world benchmark. Others identify a country or the European Union. Common questions

How do I get copper price history?

Use worldbank-cmo-copper with the observations endpoint. Pass start and end together to select a date window. Copper prices are monthly decimal strings in USD per metric ton.

Does this commodity API include fertilizer prices and rice prices?

Yes. Use category=fertilizers for fertilizer prices, commodity=urea for the urea price series, or commodity=rice for rice price benchmarks. Discovery returns the series IDs for latest prices and history.

How far back does history go?

The earliest monthly series start in January 1960. Others start later, and some have ended. Read coverage_start and coverage_end for each series. Your plan's history allowance also applies.

What units and licence apply?

All prices use USD and the published unit and quantity. No unit conversion is applied. Keep the attribution with the data, which is licensed under CC BY 4.0. Source: The World Bank: World Bank Commodity Price Data (The Pink Sheet), CC BY 4.0
